Arctic loons and a Finnish summer cottage

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 1 September 2008 in Animal & Insect.

My evening rowing and an evening trip of those wonderful birds happened in same time. They were warning each other all the time, perhaps about me.
The other name for this bird is a black-throated diver.
This cottage is not ours.

Thank you very much for your visits and comments !

I was told that in Finland, when they have a bungalow (cottage) it's most of the time (if not always) by a lake ! This one look like a vey cosy one !

There are 187,888 lakes in Finland larger than 5 ares (500 square metres). Most are small, but there are 309 lakes or reservoirs larger than 10 km². We have shores enough for summer cottages.
2007 we had in Finland 478 306 summer cottages ( about 5,3 millions inhabitants ) and a piece of a shore belongs always to a cottage, if not, we do not call it a summer cottage but something like " granny`s cottage" :)
Our cottage is located very near the cottage of this photo and we have to drive about ½ hour from home to get there. We are using it even during winter time.

Thank you all for stopping by !

WHOA! Your photoblog looks FANTASTIC LEENA!!!! I realllly like it! This has got to be by far the nicest layout I've seen and you even have a nice thumbnail above the comment section - you're getting so good at this! Oh and the word verification is so ez to read - not like Googles cryptic one that is supa long.
I like your summer photos - such a contrast to your white winter ones!
