Blue for "Blue Monday"

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 13 October 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture.

I took this photo last May in Istanbul.

Beylerbey summer- and guest palace on the Asiatic shore of Bosphorus
The palace was ready in 1865. It`s decorated with ornamements in the Oriental baroque form with classic motives.
French and Turkish artists created the ceiling decorations. Japanese vases and Bohemian crystal chandeliers are everywhere.
Russian Aywazowsky has made some paintings of ships.
The floors are covered with straw mats from Egypt to protect against humidity.

Sultan Abdulaziz and his architect "Balian" has made very decorative planning, I have to say.
This cheerful blue Monday`s theme is Sally`s idea. You can see more HERE.

Thank you very much for your visits and comments !

C'est peut être là l'origine du "bleu turquoise" ?
May be that's the origine of our French "bleu turquoise" ?
Accoring to my French historical sanakirja is yes. it comes from Italian "turchino" (dark blue) afetr turco (Turkish).
Thanks for this !

Suomeksi "turkoosinsininen", I didn't know this word before today !

13 Oct 2008 8:04am

@deslilas: And I went also to my Encyclopedia and saw this same thing about the origin of that word!
Thank you, isn`t blogging educating thing :)

Thanks a lot!

Lovely photograph and full of iinterest. The colours and decoration are beautiful. It always amazes me how people, in those days , could do such beautiful work ,with the basic tools they had then.
