The Lutheran church of Joensuu / My World post

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 3 November 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

"Joensuu Church is made of bricks and located in the centre of Joensuu, North Karelia, Finland. The church was built in 1903 and designed by a Finnish church architect Josef Stenbäck. The church is in the Gothic Revival style, but it also has some features of Jugendstil." ( source Wikipedia )

Year 2000 85,1 % from Finns belonged to the Lutheran church, 1,1 % were Orthodox , 12,7 % were outside any religions and rest of Finns were inside the other religions.

@Jean-Michel: I am always been thinking this church building as " light " compared with those marvelous old granite churches.

Hei Leena
Kylla on ihana kirkko! Its very lovely and set with the blue skies..ahhhh so nice. You've captured a wonderful picture. Is that Karjala - Karjala? My father lived in Karjala as a little boy when the war broke out and they had to leave their farm...then they were able to move back and then lost it again.

Interesting about Hallween slowly coming to Finland. It was also interesting learning about what is done there on November 1st.

I hope you are having some nice weather...nice blue skies and some warmth. Our weather is here and there. It was up to 22C on Friday and a bit chillier today at 6C on the way to work. Do you change your clock as we do here in the spring and fall? We changed ours this weekend so its lighter 1 hour earlier but tonight it'll be darker 1 hour earlier...so probably about 5:30 or so...yuck
Hope you have a great day.
Judi

Also my father was from Karjala, which is now a part of Russia and he had to do same thing with his family - two times as yours did and then leave his home once and for all, he did never go there after that. My father`s home was in Suistamo ( Loimola ), if your mother knows those places.
Our weather is cooling off very fast now and yes, we changed our clocks too even everybody is saying, it`s just foolish :)
Thank you for your visit and telling about your family history!

NANNE from Netherlands

LEENA,

A comment from Nanne, placed by this very nice photo of the church. I see there was at that moment snow, already! Now at this moment,it will be very cold in Finland!?
about yesterday, I have tried to organize a little item in the newspaper, here in Friesland. Why? Because Koop his mother comes from here. I know here very good, longtimes ago she was a little friend from me. At this moment she lives in the States of America. I mailed tonight with her and with an aunt of Koop, who is living here in the neighbour. I also mailed the locol television of Friesland..! So that's what happend today. Me, I am also working at a newspaper in Friesland. On my site there is a photo, where you can see how I am looking out...! You have to go in the ARCHIEF, than you go to the month Oktober, than you go to the item: Linkshandige Nanne, placed on 27 oktober. There you see Nanne twice!
Oké that's for today!

Wish you a nice evening and till the next time!
