That`s my world today

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 17 November 2008 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

It`s 00.26 in the night and I got the fourth photo book ready. And we got a little snow yesterday, which is a latest time ever in this part of Finland to get first snow. Just now it`s snowing nicely - big snowflakes are glimmering below street lamps - beautiful! A temperature is -3 C ( 26,6 F )
I will sit and watch still for a while .

Sun rises 8:26 and sets 15:05. Length of day is 6 h 39 min.

Mukavaa viikonjatkoa sinulle!

Thank you for looking from my window :) We love this snow now and we are so satisfied until April with it and then suddenly we will start to speak, oh dear, is it never melting. . . ! We never get much snow during one day, but it`s increasing step by step and in March, if we can get sunny days it`s wonderful to ski and snow is quite okay. April is totally different in our minds, it`s funny, but so it is. We feel in April, that five months are enough with snow, April is a start of a spring, which comes here also very, very slowly during May.
And Debbie, not cold at all yet, you can see in January and February, how cold it can be. Two years ago we had -35 C ( -31 F ) and everything was working as usually - almost! In Italy made trains had difficulties keep going :)

How pretty the view is from your window. Your hanging plant adds a nice touch of colour. Our weather man says we will have snow Friday.

Hei Leena
How is so light in that picture? That is so beautiful. I love the contrast of the african violet to the snow out there. Just beautiful. I was reading your comment about the -35C temp some years ago and life continues on...thats because Finnish people have sisu and that is for sure. We had snow on the weekend too and the temperature was around -2C at the lowest but mostly 0C. If you see my Monday post you can see my pics of the snow.
Well our sun is up by about 7:00 I would say and it is dark by about 5:00....hmmmm...nope probably earlier. I will have to pay more attention to the time tomorrow. It feels like our winter is a bit too long. We're lulcky it has held off as long as it has which is common so that at least it will feel a bit shorter. Sometimes we don't have snow for winter but just after or sometimes like last winter we had snow around this time and it never did leave in between it was so cold. We had such nice bright days and the snow was crispy and I love that as long as it stays off the streets.
I hope you have had a good day.
Judi

Siinä oli hienoa talven valoa ja ikkunasta katselua. Itse en ole tuota valoa vielä tänä vuonna nähnytkään, eikä sitä varmaan ennen joulua tänne tulekaan.

It was a midday, when clouds were thinner and it was a little lighter.
Judi mentioned Finnish sisu.
I remembered this article from Washington post HERE

It was fun to read, made by a good humor.

Thank you for dropping by :)

Hello Leena! This is the beauty of Finland - its clean white snow that I always look forward to seeing in your posts. The White background makes the colors come to life in a very dramatic fashion - very nice image!

@kala: Thank you, Nicholas!

Ruth from United States

It's nice to see from the inside out. By contrast, we had our earliest snow on the ground that I remember, that stayed. Unlike Finland, ours comes and goes. I wish it would last the whole winter, never melting. I love it. I think I recognize my Swedish roots. :)
