A view from my window today

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 20 November 2008 in Cityscape & Urban.

This white time has started, children have their sledges ( sleighs ? ) and next weekend mostly older people are skiing and then a downhill skiing can start also, a weather man promised more snow next Sunday. Everybody is happy except, when they are driving on icy roads and streets.

Thank you very much for your visits and comments !

Beautiful Leena Does the snow ever thaw in the winter or is it there until spring now?

20 Nov 2008 7:22pm

@jamesy: Snow will be until spring - 5-6 months increasing step by step until March and usually start to melt in April.
But Finland is a long country and it means on these latitudes, that in the southern part of Finland has snow only few weeks and Lapland in the North has snow over 7 months.
I will put some webcamera links, you can see through them snow situations in different parts of Finland
Thank you for your interest!

Ahh. The golden-orange of that house in the white!! Fantastic. So the kids have their sleds out? Sounds like fun.

20 Nov 2008 7:46pm

@Ruth: So, a sled is correct, thank you!
Kids have fun even during their schooldays, when they can play outside 15 minutes, then 45 lesson and again outside.
What about your snow, more or less today?
Thank you for your comment, Ruth!

Post card winter views : very beautiful and they give me that special winter snow feeling.

20 Nov 2008 8:46pm

@Hildegarde: I am happy, if you got that feeling as positive ! But after that my photos are white for five months :)
Perhaps I will put some photos from my journeys now and then.
Thank you for coming by!

I am so glad everyone is enjoying the snow! We haven't had any that has stayed around for more than fifteen minutes. Most everyone in NJ complains about the cold, except for my kids and I who pray for snow!

Love your delicate photo. The colorful house is set off nicely with the otherwise monochromatic scene.

Love the way you said there is no bad weather only bad clothing...a great philosophy. I love the bright cheerful house against the white snow. its very inviting. Its hard to believe its so cold and snowing when I am sitting here in my dining room looking out at a sunny 22.2C day. The hummingbirds and bees are still flitting about. A few more weeks and our Northern California "winter" will be here. Not anywhere as cold as you have.
Have a lovely weekend Leena.
