Snow lantern for MyWorld today

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 25 November 2008 in Miscellaneous.

Snow is too powder like, I could not make balls, but this was nice too a candle inside.
But I wanted to show this photo more because of that old apple tree behind. These latitudes and climate is just last ones, where apple trees can manage in Finland. I am wondering after cold winters, how this old tree again managed to survive in -30 C ( -22 F ) frosts and give to us apples every summer.
Our plants and those small birds are heroes of the nature.

The answer is "sisu". Your old apple tree has the same "sisu" as Finns used to have !

HI Leena....I am surprised you have apple trees so far north that are still with you....and Yes, Sparty is a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel...he is 5 months old and actually belongs to my niece who is unable(unwilling) to spend the time training him. I just hope after I get him trained that I can give him back in good faith that she will take good care of him...he is adorable.....and LOVES the big guys...

25 Nov 2008 6:53pm

@Neva: Only certain species manage here, but we still are eating every day those apples from this old tree.
thank you for telling me about Sparty!

JM from Oeiras, Portugal

You have been already there, I suppose?

This is a lovely photo and must be really pretty to look at daily! I saw one of those lanterns with the balls on another site once and think they are so cool.
