Brooding Whooper Swan

Posted by Leena (Joensuu, Finland) on 27 September 2009 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

I suppose, that not many of you have seen this situation, thus I show the Whooper Swan couple at their nest.
A male was watching over very carefully and then I disturbed them of course with my camera, a female left a nest for a while.
Photos are taken last spring.

Wonderful Sunday to everybody!

Sun rises 6:58 and sets 18:45. Length of day is 11 h 47 min.

Thank you very much for your visits and comments !

Ah,so! They are swans! Somehow, in your previous shot, I thought them to be geese! They must be very sensitive to foreign presence when nesting. They use to leave the nest in order to draw the intruder's attention somewhere else in the hope of saving the nest.Common behaviour among birds nesting on the ground.
What you saw in my today's posting are edible chestnuts. We have plenty of chestnut orchards in Japan.
